How to prepare for your appointment
A little preparation keeps your online notary appointment short and smooth. Most sessions run just 10 to 15 minutes when you arrive ready, so it is worth taking a couple of minutes beforehand to gather what you need and settle into a quiet spot.
- Have your document ready and unsigned. The notary must witness your signature live, so do not sign ahead of time unless we tell you to.
- Bring valid government photo ID. A driver's licence, passport, or provincial photo card works, and the name should match the document.
- Check your device. Any phone, tablet, or computer with a working camera, microphone, and stable internet connection is fine.
- Find a quiet, private space. You will be confirming personal details and signing on camera, so somewhere without interruptions is best.
What happens during the call
When you join, your commissioned notary will greet you, confirm your identity against your ID, and review the document with you to make sure it is the right one and that you understand what you are signing. You will then sign while the notary watches, and they will apply their official digital seal, signature, and notarial certificate. The completed file is emailed to you right after the call — usually within minutes.
